Something wicked this way comes.... wicked in the awesome sense :D

This week I paid homage to one of my favourite comic covers, Amazing Spider-Man 348, by Erik Larsen. This was my era of comics and I thought it caught what I'm trying to achieve with HOTWAB really well.

Because of the set up of the first 2 panels in which Tri-Brain and the guards overlap it looks as if they are shooting at something behind Tri-Brain and not at giant. I basically looks like 1 panel of action instead of two actions. I think a panel gutter here would help define this better plus I wouldnt have both set of figures break the panel border.

Yep I was right, the mantis is loose!

Excellent homage. Always had a lot of respect for Erik Larsen, and his commitment to his creations.

Thanks Neil, he caught my attention in the era where comic art was getting super technical and I liked his more Kirbyesque approach.

Yeah guys like Larson and Walt Simonson kept that Kirby aesthetic alive while still managing not to be clones.

I couldnt agree more. Of all the guys who formed Image he's the only one he really who kept producing his own creator owned projects. I really dont count MCFarlain because he ended up being more of a toy maker and leaving his comics in the hands of others.
