Here we have a good example of a HOTWAB character in Damoizelle. There's no mentally torturous past, no lab experiment gone wrong. I wanted to move beyond those tropes, imagining a post-modern look at heroism. I felt Ozymandias from Watchmen was a good platform for what a modern hero would be like (though not retired). Attain enough fame through your adventures and you could make merchandise sales, and live a moderately (or ideally fantastically) comfortable celebrity lifestyle. Having a media mogul on your side to clean up and potential mistakes you may make helps.

However this isn't simply some banal attempt at a motivation for heroes. There's the public perception of being a good guy they need to maintain, which can be a straight jacket for some. The bad guys are real enough, and one could argue they deserve rewards for their victories (one could also argue were the news reports of the villains exaggerated). And furthermore it touches on the ethics of consequentialism. Is it our actions or the principles behind those actions which make them good? These were some of the things I wanted to explore in HOTWAB.

What's great is how you handle abnormal anatomy like the very fat Power Paws. Its very convincing at every angle, kudos on that!

My character Palmetto Bug (who has roach powers) is in the same boat as Demoiselle. So hard to get a date.
