So here we go. This is where I think the whole "early childhood characters done with current art skills" part of HOTWAB will really hit home. I had this character, inspired no less by Captain Creme from Bananaman (who's so obscure a character he's hard to find even through Google). I was also playing D&D at the time and liked the word 'Vorpal' (from the Vorpal sword item) with little idea to it's meaning or literary origin.

I was bored in Maths class one day and this character just sprang out at me. Vorpal Blancmange... (I was a strange child). I gave him pudding-themed crime fighting gadgets along with his sugary pink outfit. When it came to scouring my back catalogue of heroes to include in HOTWAB, I gave some thought about how I could reinterpret him in to a more contemporary setting.

But then I thought, why reinterpret him? Surely the project's about bringing these childhood creations to life! And you wont find a more unique hero than someone called "Vorpal Blancmange" haha. So yeah he set out as the Vorpal Detective, the reason for his garish outfit will be revealed later, but the 'blancmange' part is a nickname he picks up from here on in. I also find that when people reinterpret the gadget-based detective trope in their comics, it's usually the brooding dark knight theme, and I thought it would be funny to have mine so off the wall it's in the next room haha. So yeah people don't take him seriously, but maybe that's their folly???

Well now that was very interesting, reading about the inception of this character. I can't wait to see why he wears such an outfit and I'm always found of learning an author's intent when creating an OC.

Thanks! Yes I love the character creation process. I'm networked on a few groups over on Deviantart full of OCs.

I don't see it.

His colour palette is taken from a Blancmange
